FretDojo Community Guidelines

One of the most valuable aspects of this unique jazz guitar community is the commitment of its members and the interaction between them. Showing your individual progress in the challenge videos, and helping others by giving constructive feedback is very beneficial, but can also be quite challenging. That’s why it’s good to have some kind of code of conduct, as a guideline for how we communicate and learn together.

The guidelines for the FretDojo community are pretty simple and what you would expect of any group of this nature:

  • Treat other group members with respect
  • No bad language or offensive comments
  • Refrain from posting sales or advertisements for your business in this group
  • Be an active contributor and to offer helpful tips to others when you can

About offering tips to others: please be aware that written feedback can come across quite differently than intended. There’s no friendly voice or body language to nuance the feedback – this is the main reason emoticons were invented, so please use them if they help get your message across ☺

Here are some tips on giving (and receiving) feedback:

  • Be friendly and constructive
  • Concentrate on the content, not the person
  • Be specific and realistic
  • Keep in mind we’re all students, and perform at different levels
  • Never underestimate the power of a compliment ☺

Topics on politics, religion and/or beliefs are very interesting, but let’s not discuss them here. The Dojo is about guitar and music only.

When you complete a course, or parts of it, you’re asked to post a video which shows your progress, so you can get feedback on it. When posting, please add the following information, so that it’s easy for members and instructors to navigate and we actually know what your intention was with the submission. Guidelines for posting course submissions:

  • #CourseName or #StandardTitle
  • #WorkInProgress or #FinalVersion
  • Level #Bronze #Silver or #Gold

Please be aware that admins and/or site managers are free to remove comments or entries from the website without any further explanation if they think they’re not honoring these guidelines.

Cheers!
